EWM App Suite

From container to truck.
Ten apps, one device, one process.

For a logistics center handling temperature-controlled goods, custom SAP EWM apps cover the entire flow of goods: receive containers and open them once customs-cleared, inspect and recondition pallets, put away, plan shipments and load – right on the handheld scanner, without SAP GUI and without paper.

  • 10 appsfrom goods receipt to loading
  • Paperlesscustoms report and loading note with signature
  • SAP EWMstandard APIs, rules in Customizing

Process

One continuous flow of goods instead of isolated transactions.

Each app covers exactly one work step and hands off cleanly to the next. When things run normally, the flow stays short – checks and exception paths only appear when something actually deviates.

The apps

Ten apps – each built for one task on the floor.

Inbound

At the dock door

Open container

Scan the container or door – only what is customs-cleared and in temporary storage gets opened. Capture seal and tally, post goods receipt.

  • Customs gate with clear instructions
  • Transportation unit and door right from the app
  • On rejection, blocked stock and quality notification are created automatically
At the container

Report container empty

Empty and damage reports in two screens. If something deviates, the app guides through conformity and quantity checks all the way to the discrepancy report for customs.

  • Planned vs. actual per batch with live difference
  • Quality notification and batch block created automatically
  • Report signed directly on the device
At the packing station

Repack

Repack entire containers as planned. The app shows which pallets are still missing and creates the putaway exactly when the new pallet is scanned.

  • Progress: “X of Y at the packing station”
  • Scan new pallets freely
  • System and physical stock stay in sync

Quality & warehouse

At the conveyor

Conveyor check

Temperature and condition of every pallet in just a few taps. A rule decides where it goes next: warehouse, quality inspection, reconditioning or straight off the conveyor.

  • Temperature checked against target range, color-coded
  • Inspection points from SAP Customizing
  • Result documented as a quality notification
At the reconditioning station

Reconditioning

Rejected pallets are reconditioned instead of written off. Services performed – labeling, pallet exchange, repacking – are fully recorded in the system.

  • Location and status checked on scan
  • Multiple services per pallet
  • Documented for billing
On the forklift

Move pallet

One app for planned and unplanned movements: pick up to two pallets, confirm to the planned bin or choose a permitted alternative destination.

  • With or without a warehouse task
  • Alternative destinations per process from Customizing
  • Bulk confirmation with partial summary

Outbound

In the control room

Shipping cockpit

All pickups per transportation unit with status lights. Start picking for several orders at once and assign doors – on desktop, tablet or phone.

  • Status from check-in to goods issue
  • Free and occupied doors at a glance
At the service station

Value-added services in outbound

Record value-added services before loading. Staging is confirmed automatically on scan, then the pallet heads to the loading ramp.

  • Quality repack, repack, pallet exchange
  • Services logged for billing
At the loading ramp

Repack damaged goods

If goods are no longer fit to ship, the app replaces cartons from a matching donor pallet – or reduces the delivery if there is none.

  • Six system steps behind two or three screens
  • Interrupted processes resume on scan
At the truck

Loading

Loading progress per delivery, driver and warehouse operator sign on the device, seal documented – and goods issue is posted.

  • Transfer of risk clearly documented
  • Reduced quantities visible

Insights

Rules decide. The operator scans and confirms.

  • Quality at the conveyor, not after the fact. Every pallet is checked for temperature and condition – preset to “OK”, so the normal case takes just one tap.
  • Rule-based routing. Findings take precedence over quality inspection, quality inspection over storage. The app executes the warehouse task instead of leaving the decision to the operator.
  • Fully documented. Readings and findings are stored in SAP as a quality notification – even when everything is in order.
  • Signatures instead of paper. Driver and warehouse operator sign directly on the scanner – the loading note is documented, the transfer of risk unambiguous.
  • Same principle toward customs. If the quantity in the container deviates, the discrepancy report including signature is created digitally – from the counted values, not retyped.
  • Goods issue posted at the door. On completion, the delivery is loaded in SAP and the seal is documented.

Built for the floor

Gloves, cold, shift changes – the apps are designed for them.

Scan first

Every process starts with a scan. Short codes and door scans are resolved, and focus always jumps back to the scan field.

Errors with instructions

Instead of technical codes, the app says what to do – such as which app can help or whom the operator should notify.

Robust in daily use

Protection against double taps with gloves, counters instead of keyboards, confirmation prompts only where a posting cannot be reversed.

Handover without restarting

Processes already started can be resumed at the same container or pallet – even by a colleague.

Incorrect postings prevented

Blocked pallets, wrong workstations and non-permitted destinations are rejected at the scan – not only at posting.

Honest feedback

If SAP does not confirm a posting, the app shows a warning rather than a false success. Posting chains show how far they got.

Billable services

Reconditioning, repacking and value-added services are logged per pallet – the basis for billing.

Standard APIs where available

Handling units, warehouse tasks, outbound deliveries and quality notifications run through released SAP interfaces. Custom services only where the standard offers nothing.

Rules in Customizing

Inspection points, alternative destinations and process types live in SAP – changes without a new app release.

Align before the backend is ready

Thanks to the service layer, the business team works early on with realistic test data. Switching to the real system is a matter of configuration.
